Methodology
The plastic pollution issue globally is rapidly working to turn off the tap, realizing that prevention is key to a long-term strategy. Countries worldwide are asking how to measure their plastic pollution footprint, resulting in a UN GESAMP (Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection) report outlining standardized measuring tools. Having contributed to this report, we are adapting the linear transects for beaches and riverbanks to roadsides in the urban setting.
The TrashBlitz data card is derived from the GESAMP report, and aligns with global NGOs, like Surfrider, to measure plastic pollution and give municipalities, business leaders, and the public the data they need to focus solutions to mitigate the problem. This allows us to scale TrashBlitz methods to any city and any watershed across the globe.
